Three Lakes W. M. A., Viera Ponds, Turkey Creek
Merrit Island has consistently been some of the best birding of the year. We will visit the wildlife drives and visitor center to look for rare waterfowl, shorebirds and a numerous variety of species. Lots of other hot spots await us at Viera Ponds, Turkey Creek Sanctuary, Cape Canaveral Seashore, and anything else we can squeeze in. In the 3 Lakes W. M. A. we will search for Whooping Cranes, Red-cockaded Woodpeckers, Bachman Sparrow and Brown-headed Nuthatches. This trip should yield more than 100 species. Cost includes 3 days of expert birding, hot breakfasts, 2 nights hotel (dbl. occupancy), van for the first 5 people. Late return because of Red-cockaded woodpecker. Cost-$355.
April 24 & 25 - Ft. De Soto, Celery Field
Ft. DeSoto is one of the best spots for spring migration and the possibility of 100 plus species for this trip. Varieties can include 15 species of warblers-Hooded, Kentucky, Blackpoll, shorebirds-Whimbrel, Painted/Indigo Buntings Scarlet/Summer Tanagers and Blue/Rose-breasted Grosbeaks. An early a.m. walk in Ft. De Soto, and head south to Cecil Webb for Eastern Bluebird, Bachman Sparrow and Red-cockaded Woodpecker. We will stop at the Celery Fields for Bobolink, Sora, Wilson Snipe, & Black-bellied Whistling. Trip includes 2 days of birding, 1 night's hotel, happy hour and breakfast. Cost-$255.
